Question: 15625 find the square root by division method

Split the number 15625 into lots of 2 (i.e. powers of 100) starting from the right, as follows. 1 56 25.

Now start with the square root of the left-most "100", i.e. sqrt(1) = 1

       1    2    5
1   ) 1  56  25   -- multiply the 1 on the top by the 1 on the left and subtract from the 1 of the 15625
1      1              -- add the 1 from the top to the 1 on the left to get 2 and put it underneath.
22    0  56        -- put 2 on the top, and also beside the 2 just put down, then multiply together.
  2        44        -- 2*22 = 44, so subtract this from the 56
24 5     12  25 -- now put 5 on the top and 5 beside the 24, and multilpy together.
