how do you solve 18 1/8-7 15/16

first find a common denominator, it is 16 and change the 1/8 to 2/16.

18 2/16 - 7 15/16 =    I can not subtract 15/16 from 2/16 so I borrowed 16/16 or 1 from the whole number.

17 18/16 - 7 15/16 =   now subtract 17-7 then sybtract 18/16 - 15/16

10 3/16
