7/2 - 3/9

First note that 3/9 = 1/3 so

7/2 - 3/9

= 7/2 - 1/3

Find equivalent fractions with lcd, which is 6. To make the first fraction to have denominator of 6, we multiply it by 3 both on top and bottom. For the second fraction, we multiply by 2 on both top and bottom. So,

= 7(3) / 2(3) - 1(2) / 3(2)

= 21/6 - 2/6

= 19/6

or if you have to write in mixed number,

= 3 1/6
