how do you factor f(x)=3x^3+4x^2-35x-12 ; 3

divide the 3 root out remember that the root has the opposite sign

        _3x^2 + 13x + 4______

x - 3) 3x^3 + 4x^2 - 35x - 12

         3x^3 - 9x^2

                   13x^2 - 35x

                   13x^2 - 39x

                                  4x - 12

                                  4x - 12

                                         0

(x - 3)(3x^2 + 13x + 4)  factor 3x^2 + 13x + 4

(x - 3)(3x + 1)(x+ 4)

roots are 3, -1/3 and -4
