line 1: 5x -6y=-2x +39 or 7x-6y=39

line 2: 4x+6y=5y+31 or 4x+y=31 or y=-4x+31

line1...7x-6(-4x+31)=39

7x+24x -186=39

31x=186+39=225

x=225/31=7.258064516

y=-4x+31=31-29.03225806

y=1.967741936

5x - 6y = 39 - 2x,

4x + 6y = x + 5y + 31

By moving the x's and y's over to the lhs, the above system of equations reduces to,

7x - 6y = 39  ---- (1)

3x + y = 31  ----- (2)

from (2), y = 31 - 3x. Substitute for this into (1).

7x - 6(31 - 3x) = 39

7x - 186 + 18x = 39

25x = 225

x = 9

y = 31 - 3x = 31 - 27 = 4

y = 4
