What is the GCF of 12 and 45?

Split each number into prime numbers like this:

12 = 2 * 2 * 3

45 = 3 * 3 * 5

The GCF is made of the numbers that appear in both 12 and 45.  For this problem that's just 3.

Answer:  The GCF of 12 and 45 is 3.
