1). y = 2x + 3

2). y= x - 2

set them equal

2x + 3 = x -2 to solve for x

x + 3 = -2      subtract x from both sides of the equal sign

x = -5             subtract 3 from both sides ...

y = x - 2          put in x = -5

y = -5 -2

y = -7                (-5,-7) may be the answer we need to check

put x and y into the first equation

y = 2x + 3                         y = x -2

-7 = 2*-5 + 3                     -7 = -5 - 2

-7 = -10 + 3                       -7 = -7   checks out

-7 = -7 checks out

(-5,-7) is the solution
