Abby owns her own sports shop. She buys football jerseys for $20 each and sells them for $45 each. What is the percent markup of each jersey?

A. Write an algebraic equation for the problem?

B. Solve your equation and label your answer.

let p mean the percent of markup

45 = 20 (1 + p) the final cost is 45, to get it you multiply 100 percent or (1) of 20 plus some percent

45 = 20 + 20p   distribute the 20

25 = 20p           subtract 20 from both sides

25/20 = p          divide by 20 on both sides

5/4 = p              reduce by 5

1.25 = p            or the markup is 125%
