3x+2y=-4
x+2y=-8

Subtract the second equation from the first.

 3x + 2y = -4
-(x + 2y = -8)
----------------
2x         = 4
x = 2

Substitute the value of x into the second equation.

x + 2y = -8
2 + 2y = -8
2y = -10
y = -5

To check, substitute the values for x and y into the first equation.

3x + 2y = -4
3(2) + 2(-5) = -4
6 - 10 = -4
-4 = -4

They check. x = 2, y = -5
