2y-5=2y+7 How do you solve for y in this
equation when y is 0?
Solve for y.

Your statement is conflicting. First you want to solve for y,
then you state the value of y to use.

NOTE: this is NOT an equation, because the two sides
do not represent the same value. You have a 2y on both sides,
but on one side you are subracting 5 from it, and on the other
side you are adding 7 to it.

In order to solve any equation when you have been given
a value for the unknown, simply replace the variable with
the given value.

2y - 5 = 2y + 7
2(0) - 5 = 2(0) + 7
0 - 5 = 0 + 7
-5 = 7    WRONG!

As I said, this is not an equation, because the two sides
have different values.
