40=29+1/3x  First get rid of the denominator, multiply everything by 3x

40 *3x = 29 * 3x + 1

120x = 87x + 1           Subtract 87x from both sides

120x - 87x = 1

33x = 1                      divide by 33 on both sides

x = 1/33
