The center of the diameter of a circle is at -6,10 and one endpoint is at -8,8. Determine the other endpoint of the diameter. Graph the diameter of a circle
The centre is C(-6, 10)
The 1st point is P1(-8, 8)
The 2nd poinis P2(xp,yp)
The difference between the centre coordintes and the 1st endpoint is the same as the difference between the coordinates of the 2nd endpoint and the centre. i.e.
C - P1 = (-6, 10) - (-8, 8) = (-6 - (-8), 10 - 8) = (2, 2) <-- not coordinates but cordinates difference.
Therefore,
P2 - C = (2, 2) i.e.
(xp + 6, yp - 10) = (2, 2)
i.e. xp = -4, yp = 12
The 2nd endpoint then is: (P2(-4, 12)
