Roots of the quadratic equation x 2 + px + q = 0 are 2 and 15. Determine its roots if the value of q is doubled.
roots are 2 and 15, therefore the quadratic eqn is
(x - 2)(x - 15) = 0
x^2 - 17x + 30 = 0
Giving p = -17, q = 30
If q is doubled, the eqn becomes
x^2 - 17x + 60 = 0
(x - 5)(x - 12) = 0
The new roots are: x = 5, x = 12
