What is the function for x=0 y=1, x=2 y=2, x=4 y=3, x=6 y=4?
I can visualise the points making up a graph if I see themn as pairs of coordinates. They come out as,
(0,1), (2, 2), (4,3), (6,4)
If you plot these on a piece of graph paper, you will see that they come out looking pretty much like a straight line.
If you consider the coordinate pairs, the x-values increase by 2 at a time, while the y-values increase by 1 at a time.
This regularity in the increase of coordinate values suggests a straight line function. (as does the graph plottedf)
That then would be: y = mx + c.
Substituting in the coordinate values for teh valrious points gives m = 1/2 and c = 1.
The equatiuon of the straight line then is: y = (1/2)x + 1
