There are many types of square root problems, including calculating the square root of a particular number (which involves a type of arithmetic long division, or an iterative method like Newton’s Method which can be tedious to work out). There are also algebraic problems involving a square root, and the usual way to solve equations containing a square root is to rearrange the terms and square both sides of the equation at least once to get rid of the square root of the algebraic quantity. These days, calculators will be used (unless their use is forbidden) to calculate square roots of actual numbers, but algebraic problems need thought and logic to solve them. You need to provide a specific problem to see what method you can use to solve it.
