The distributive property allows you to multiply what's just outside the brackets or parentheses by each of the quantities inside. You need to remember that - outside changes + to - and - to plus. - by itself outside means -1 and it just changes the inside signs.
So we open the brackets: -x-13-4x=-15+27x+2.
-13-5x=-13+27x.
Add 13 to each side and we get -5x=27x. Since -5 doesn't equal 27 x must be zero. Note that we can't divide each side by x because x=0 and you can't divide by zero.
