8(¾y-¼)=26-10=16

Now divide by 8, the coefficient of the bracket: ¾y-¼=2

So ¾y=2¼

Multiply through by 4 to get rid of the fractions:

3y=9 and dividing by the coefficient 3 gives us y=3.
